International Education

I've had the honor of being involved with several wonderful organizations promoting international education.

I was selected as a member of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation's US-Japan Network for the Future in 2014 and continue to be active with the organization to promote policy-relevant research related to Japan.  I have been on study trips to Japan, South Korea, and Washington, D.C. with the support of the Mansfield Foundation.

I received support from the KCC-Japan Education Exchange many years ago to support my doctoral research in Tokyo, Japan.  Today I serve on their board and graduate fellowship committee. KCC-JEE is the oldest US-Japan collaborative organization in America.

Former Political Candidate

In 2018, I ran as a Democratic Candidate for Florida State House of Representatives in District 73 to represent parts of eastern Manatee & Sarasota Counties. My platform was to make Florida Schools #1, with a focus on education, the environment, and healthcare.  I learned so much about the community, residents' hopes and concerns, and met so many wonderful people.

Today I serve on the Ruth's List Florida Suncoast regional board, with an aim of electing Democratic pro-choice women.  We focus on candidate recruitment, candidate support, and event planning.

Activism & Organizing

I've been active with several local organizations including the Manatee County Democratic Party, Indivisible Manatee, and the Manatee Clean Energy Alliance.  I organized a protest to call attention to the Mueller Report's findings, I spoke at a rally to call for the impeachment of Donald Trump, and I organized a January 6, 2022 Vigil for Democracy in Bradenton. I frequently participate in voter canvassing education & outreach events.
